How to Quickly Paint Your Room Like a PRO

Getting tired of looking at the same old walls, why not give it a wonderful makeover? Below are some useful tips before you start getting dirty.

  1. Wait for a sunny dry day to paint your walls because if it is a rainy/ gloomy day, the air will be humid making the paint drip more and take longer to dry. Also, having the paint slowly dry will be an advantage for easy fixes from errors.
  2. Before you do any painting, visually inspect your walls for cracks, paint flakes or pin holes. Those mentioned will need to be patched with spackling paste or will need some sanding to make the walls smooth for paint. If you skip this step, after spending time painting your walls, those errors will easily be visible and sometimes the new paint will peel off because of the old paint peeling off, which will be a waste of your hard work.
  3. Remove the outlet and lighting plate covers from the wall for easy painting. This easy step will help reduce the chance of accidentally dripping paint on those covers.
  4. Cover up furniture that is hard to be moved or is built on the wall that you do not want paint on. Also, the floors should be covered up, in case you accidentally drip paint on your beautiful floors. You can get plastic tarps to cover the areas that need to be protected. Also for the trims/baseboards, you can get painter’s tape to cover them up.
  5. When getting your brushes and rollers, there are many different kinds and thicknesses for different painting purposes, so be sure to give all the details to the sales person at the store.
  6. When painting, paint from top to bottom and keep a consistent direction when painting, either vertically or horizontally, so that the paint strokes on the wall are consistent. After painting the first coat, wait for a couple of hours, and then paint the second coat.
  7. This is an important tip, before you buy any paint, measure your walls or have an estimate of how much paint you will need to cover. Based on the estimate, try to buy enough paint in one go. If you buy your paint by the can there may be a slight chance that the colour may be a little off from the others can, causing 2 shades on your wall, which I am sure you don’t want.
