Working-from-Home, the New Normal

While we’re all adjusting to the “new normal” of spending more time at home, and running a business or performing a job from your home office space, we aim to help you make your working space operational, safe and comfortable.

Your work should not be interrupted by small maintenance nuisances. Therefore, let’s go for the low hanging fruit in a quick and inexpensive manner. The task list we provide is simple to complete.

• Safety first. Test your smoke detectors. Do they sound loud or weak? Are they too old? Additionally, check that your fire extinguishers are fully charged and placed in strategic locations.
• Check the water shut off valves under sinks and toilets. Do they open and close easily? (In case of emergency you want to stop any leak quickly…. And thus, to avoid a hefty deductible.)
• Inspect your furnace filter. If dirty, replace it.
• Check your home thermostat. Does it control the furnace promptly and accurately?
• Are there any electrical outlets loose or broken throughout the house? How about wall plates missing? Are any live wires hanging?
• Do you have any leaky toilets and/or faucets? Are their bases tightened and secure?
• Inspect all entrance doorknobs. Are they firmly installed? Do the doors open/close freely, quietly and firmly?
• Inspect window latches and handles. Are the window tracks clean and free of debris?
• Make sure interior and exterior handrails are installed properly, and that there are no stair nosings loose as they can be a tripping hazard.
• Check that bathtubs, sinks, toilets drain nicely to avoid backups.
• Make sure bookshelves are properly assembled and secured to the walls.
• Inspect that gutters and downspouts are unobstructed and send the water away from the house foundations.
