4 Home Safety Things You MUST KNOW Before You Travel
Are you looking forward to taking a vacation when the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted? Well, before you leave, here are 4 handy tips for your home to check before you head out.
1. Contact your Home Insurance Company
The reason is that you will be vacant from your home for X number of days. Notifying them will allow them to still cover your home if anything happens. Although each company has different policies, giving them a call will give you peace of mind when traveling.
2. Have someone check out the place every couple of days
Having someone like a friend or co-worker check your home while you are away will be beneficial because then they can check if there are any maintenance issues, such as a leaky pipe. I am sure you do not want to come home with water damages to your lovely furniture and an unexpected high water bill.
If they notice a problem when completing this check-up, call us at 403-452-6606, and we’ll send them a pro to help ASAP.
3. Make your home look like it is not vacant
Making your home look like there is someone inside will make your home look busy, making unwanted guests avoid your home while you are vacationing. Some ideas you can try are making your indoor lights on a timer, so that the lights will turn on automatically when it is at the set time. Make sure the light bulbs are new as you don’t want them to burn out halfway through your vacation. Haha.
Ask someone to collect the mail or flyers from your mailbox every couple of days, so that it doesn’t fill up quickly making it obvious that the house is empty.
4. Some Money-Saving Tips to Reduce Your Bills
The A/C is everyone’s favorite during a hot summer day, but when you are on vacation, it is unnecessary to blast cool air into your house. To save money on bills, set your thermostat about 4 degrees higher than your usual temperature, so that you can save money on electrical bills and it doesn’t create mould or mildew. Another way to save some money is to unplug non-essential items, such as lamps that are not being used, coffee makers or laptop chargers. Plus, for safety reasons, you don’t want any plugged in items to have a short circuit and damage your items or start a fire. Lastly, make sure all doors and windows are closed and locked so that nothing can unexpectedly go in while you are gone.
Hope this helps and enjoy your next vacation!
